The time is now.
Geoff Young was the only Democratic
candidate that showed up for the Kentucky Press Association Forum at
the Mariott East in Louisville, Friday, January 23, 2015, 9am to
10:15am. Jack Conway would blame a “scheduling conflict” for
being a no-show, but Conway would also slight Geoff yet once again in
only mentioning the Republican candidates in the midst of his poor
excuses. Conway is afraid to debate Geoff, and that's why he was a
no-show.
On December 28, 2014, Young sent an
email out to Jack Conway wanting to debate the topic: “Are Mitch
McConnell and Steve Robertson the two most vicious racists in
Kentucky?” Had Conway agreed, we would have seen a debate among the
Democratic candidates last week.
Over $100 million spent on this last
Senate election, and nothing to show for it. Kentucky is in dire need
of a “gentleman's conversation” about the myriad of issues
Kentucky is faced with.
Perhaps a series of Lincoln-Douglass
debates is still an option for Conway and Young.
In spite of there being at least 30
reporters at the Kentucky Press Association Forum, hardly a peep was
heard from big media about Geoff Young's comments. Also, there were
video cameras rolling at the Forum, yet no video has surfaced yet. So
far, nothing.
Of course everybody knows that the
media is a business. While it should be their job to inform and
educate the masses, most of the time, the media is focused on the
peripheral, the sensational, whatever gets folks to buy newspapers:
“If it bleeds, it leads.” Media only care to make their
advertisers happy, and they do so by getting as many viewers as they
possibly can, which makes you, the audience, the commodity that is
being bought and sold.
All of the candidates who had the guts
to show up—Heiner, Comer, Scott—were all in support of extended
gaming. If you merely relied on traditional media, you wouldn't know
what actually happened at the Mariott East event.
The only coverage that gave Young more
than a mention was the Lexington Herald-Leader, which gave
Young this one single sentence of coverage:
“For more than an hour, the only
dissenting voice was Young's as he defended a single-payer health
care system, accused U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell
of racism and encouraged Republicans to join Planned
Parenthood.”

Geoff Young stole the show at the
Kentucky Press Association, but if one only read or watched major
media, one wouldn't even have known that Young even showed up. While
not mentioning Young in his newspaper articles, Joe Gerth did live
tweet the event under #kygov15.
Let's recap what happened on January
23, 2015:
1 – Geoff Young defended a
“single-payer” healthcare system. Geoff Young said that the
Republican position Obamacare and Medicaid is “immoral.”
2 - Geoff Young invited the Republicans
to join Planned Parenthood, considering that “Planned parenthood is
the best abortion prevention medicine around.”
3 - Geoff Young supports raising gas
tax to pay for roads, and Young supports the lawsuit by
Courier-Journal and Herald-Leader to open child protection records.
4 – Young pointed out that Mitch
McConnell's, and the Kentucky Republican Party's, illegal election
violation was poorly handled by the Attorney General. Young made the
connection that voter suppression is inherently racist, presciently,
considering Selma is in movie theaters today.
5 – Geoff Young slammed the
Republicans on education: “I haven't heard a Republican yet make
sense on the subject of education.”
6 – Geoff Young vowed to stopping
“the Republican class war.”
Folks all around the Commonwealth are
getting lined up to speak with Mr. Geoff Young, and to hear about his
ideas for change, especially to help reorganize local Democratic
parties, to be stronger, for this, and future campaigns.
Geoff Young
has been speaking with 30 candidates, and has made a “short list”
of folks who want to be “on deck” to bat as Young's Lieutenant
Governor.
These are the 4 issues Geoff Young is
going to talk about across the Commonwealth:
1 – Energy Policy
2 – Abortion
3 – Racism
4 – Class war
The Republican candidates were falling
over themselves in their complete and utter undying love and support
for Fracking, while Young calls Fracking the real “war on coal”
on his website. For Geoff, he could tell the 3 Republicans apart
“even with a powerful microscope.”

Let's get Geoff's campaign started on
the right foot. Sometimes the most dangerous man in politics is an
honest man, and Geoff is that honest and good man, who is not afraid
to speak the truth. Kentucky's 2015 Gubernatorial election is going
to be memorable. Let's chip in, $5, $10, $20, $100, every bit helps,
to move Geoff towards a 120-county campaign!
